Medical Monday: Donate Life Month

Remaining Ad Time Ad - 00:00

(WXOW) – Data show there are about 114,000 people around the country waiting for a second chance at life. Health officials ask everyone to consider signing up to be an organ donor in this National Donate Life Month.

Gundersen Health System held a special ceremony on Monday, April 1 outside its La Crosse hospital to recognize the effort of donors and remember those in need of an organ. At 10:08, officials raised a flag and held a moment of silence for one minute and 14 seconds. Those numbers show how one donation can save eight lives and shift the focus to those 114,000 people still waiting.

Local health experts encourage anyone over the age of 15 to sign up on the donor registry. In 2018, doctors transplanted organs to more than 700 Wisconsin recipients.

Sign up to be a donor on both the Wisconsin and Minnesota donor registries.
