(WXOW) – With May being Stroke Prevention Month, we’re looking at ways to prevent as much harm as possible by recognizing the signs.
Bethany Girtler said fast action can mean the difference between life and death. The most important thing people can do when seeing the signs of a stroke is to call 911. Monday on Daybreak Girtler Explained the signs with the acronym BE FAST:
B = Loss of coordination and Balance
E = Loss of vision or double vision (Eyes)
F = Weakness on one side of the Face
A = Arm or leg weakness on one side
S = Difficulty speaking or understanding Speech
T = Terrible, sudden headache
Once the call to 911 has been placed, Girtler recommends noting the last time the patient was “well” before the signs started appearing. By relaying that information, Girtler said you can help improve that person’s chances of effective treatment and recovery.
