Medical Monday: Battling Burnout

Remaining Ad Time Ad - 00:00

La Crosse, WI (WXOW) – If you’re feeling more than the usual Monday blues, it could be an actual medical issue. Gundersen Health System wellness educator Christie Harris discussed workplace burnout.

Burnout, long recognized as a problem by those overworked and seeking employment, is now a part of the World Health Organization’s official diagnosis handbook. That means doctors can diagnose someone with burnout if they exhibit symptoms of exhaustion, efficacy and feelings of negativity or cynicism related to their job.

The guidelines caution medical professionals about first ruling out any anxiety or mood disorders before diagnosing a patient with burnout. Harris also discussed what’s next when it comes to treatment and how to prevent burnout.
