Medical Monday: Healthy Living With Chronic Pain

La Crosse, WI (WXOW) – For those battling chronic pain, local health experts say there’s a way to take control beyond simply using medication. Gundersen Health System is offering a six-week program called Healthy Living With Chronic Pain.

The course costs $30 (includes textbook) and teaches strategies for understanding and managing pain through body and mind exercises. Through goal setting, wellness education specialist Carrie Zimmerman said participants will learn ways to manage symptoms associated with chronic pain. The idea, she added, is to measure confidence each week as a benchmark.

Zimmerman also noted that the program is not meant to serve as addiction recovery or replace current pain medication. Those on a pain management plan should continue to stick to their care provider’s advice.

The program meets Mondays from 9 – 11:30 am July 22 through August 26. You can register by calling (608) 775-6870 or going to gundersenhealth.org/living-well.
