Backpacks for Patients

A local girl scout troop is helping cancer patients at Mayo one backpack at a time.

Troop 4435 from Trempealeau filled back packs with gifts for over a year now. The backpacks were dropped off at the Mayo Clinic Health System Cancer and Surgery Center Monday morning.

The backpacks contained things like hand sanitizer, word searches, and stress balls. The girls also threw in a blankets and quote books that they made themselves.

According to one of the scouts this was all about being able to make someone’s day.

“I think it makes them happy and hopefully puts a smile on their face, to have someone who cares about them enough to make a gift for them. So hopefully it puts a smile on their face and lightens up their day,” said Jazmyn Kubas one of the scouts in troop 4435.

This project will help the girls achieve the bronze award, the highest honor a junior girl scout can receive.
