New security updates finished at Holmen School District

Holmen students can feel more secure when school starts up after recent security upgrades are now complete.

The district constructed new entries for the middle and high school. The new entry forces those entering the school into a vestibule that opens to the school office.

This allows staff to get a better view of who enters the building and can prevent intruders from gaining direct access to the rest of the school.

“Community members and visitors no longer have to walk through the hallway to get to the main office,” Holmen Middle School Principal Ryan Vogler said. “So it really gives us an opportunity for us to be the first people in the office to greet them and make sure we’re keeping our students safe.”

The upgrade comes from a referendum passed by voters in 2017. The next step for the referendum is to build similar measures in two of the district’s elementary schools. The planning phase of those projects are underway.
