Environment, jobs, cost concerns raised at Foxconn Town Hall

Onalaska, WI (WXOW) — It was a full room at Onalaska High School on Tuesday night for a public town hall meeting about Foxconn.

Senator Jennifer Shilling (D), District 32, hosted the listening session with other Democratic lawmakers there to help answer questions. Those in attendance raised concerns about the environmental impact, job outlook, and costs associated with the estimated $4.5 billion project.

Although Foxconn continues to move forward, Shilling says it is critical for people to speak up.

“Earth is being moved right now,” she said. “The project has been started; however, just keep asking their local elected officials and hold them accountable for answers and information about this project and really the cost of it to Wisconsin at large.”

Shilling says the costs of Foxconn will have an impact on the state budget for 25 years to come.

She plans to hold more local listening sessions on this topic and other big issues in the near future. Those with questions or concerns can call her office to speak with her at 608-266-5490.
