Oktoberfest parade marshals announced

Wednesday afternoon, we learned the identities of marshals who will lead Oktoberfest’s signature parades.

Lifelong La Crosse resident and former La Crosse Board of Education President Neil Duresky will be leading the Maple Leaf Parade. The Torchlight parade will be led by another lifelong resident, this time from La Crosse’s north side, Chuck Thoftne. In his day to day, Thoftne oversees 110 Kwik Trip stores in Southeast Wisconsin.

“My kids have marched in 19 parades as Central [High School] band members and four parades as [UW-La Crosse] Screaming Eagle band members, so I’ve seen a lot of Maple Leaf Parades and enjoyed all of them,” Duresky said.

It’s just going to be a lot of great memories and I think we’re going to gain a lot of new friends,” Thoftne said. “We’ve had the opportunity to meet pretty much the entire Oktoberfest family last night and I know were going to be spending quite a bit of time together.”

Also unveiled was a brand new float constructed for the parade marshals. Oktoberfest begins on September 27.
