More than 400 pies made ahead of Applefest

La Crescent, MN (WXOW) — La Crescent community members gathered at Crucifixion Elementary School on Thursday morning to make hundreds of pies for Applefest.

The operation included 60 dedicated pie makers from Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and Church of the Crucifixion. More than 40 pies were made from beginning to end from apple peeling to rolling dough, seasoning the apples to pinching the sides of the crust.

Organizers say the tradition captures what Applefest is all about: bringing the community together.

“It isn’t often that we get together to do an event like this in within our parish, so this is a great time for people to come together and meet one another and work together,” said Rosanne Buehler, organizer of the pie baking. “We do form bonds with projects like this.”

All of the apples are bought from local apple growers in an effort to support area business.

Buehler says almost all of the pies sold out before they were even made due to advance orders.
