Fight The Flood event beats goal

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – The numbers will go higher, but organizers of the Fight The Flood 2018 event Thursday in La Crosse said the money they raised more than beat their goal.

Several thousand people attended the event, which ran at the Southside Oktoberfest grounds for much of the day. Local musicians performed on three stages on the grounds for the event.

There was no admission fee, but people who attended were asked to donate money to help flood victims in our area. People could also drop off contributions to volunteers outside the festgrounds. A phone line was also available for pledges.

Organizers said their original goal of $150,000 was topped by 7 p.m. When the event ended roughly four hours later, that figure had surpassed the $200,000 mark.

One of the organizers, Pat Stephens, said the number they got Friday was $202,180.

They are still adding in sales figures from food, beverage, and t-shirt sales, along with the pledges, so the final result will increase.
