West Salem students volunteering for flood clean up

WEST SALEM, Wis. (WXOW) – West Salem High School lent a hand to flood affected regions.

During their football game against La Crosse Aquinas, students plan to collect money during a “Miracle Minute” between the first and second quarters. Money collected from the game will purchase gift cards for clean-up related supplies.

Saturday, more than 30 students will load a bus to volunteer in affected areas such as a stretch between Sparta and Leon as well as Ontario and La Farge.

“There’s all grade levels being represented and all activities from the fine arts to the athletics,” Jenny Stenberg, a teacher at West Salem, said. “I think that’s really inspiring that they’re kind of going beyond their social circles and things like that to help make a difference.”

“It gives me so much pride to be part of a community where we all pitch in as much as we can,” West Salem senior Emma Lenselink said. “We’re Midwest, so we’re very very family based and I really like that.”
