La Crosse, Wis. (WXOW) – A walking trail on the south side of La Crosse has a new name.

Formerly the VIP Trail, the Swift Creek Trail runs from the northern point of Isle la Plume south all the way to the Green Island Ice Arena and runs through much of La Crosse’s south side.

Staff from Gundersen and residents from the Powell-Poage-Hamilton neighborhood voted on the new trail name. Swift Creek Trail won out of 300 other suggestions.

“Now that we’ve connected to Maple Street and the Gund Brewery Lofts, we hope that the community comes along, rides their bikes, roller blades, jogs, walks, whatever they wanna do,” Gundersen CEO Scott Rathgaber said.

The trail was originally developed by Gundersen employees as a way to enjoy the outdoors over their lunch hour.
