Using convenience to highlight local business

Onalaska, Wis. (WXOW) – Whether it’s pizza for a meeting or Chinese for date night, people utilize food delivery services throughout the world. A new company recently opened in La Crosse, aiming to deliver food from restaurants people would otherwise have to get themselves.

With their official start on October 19, Bite Squad has just over a week of experience in the La Crosse area.

According to Lance Schmeckpeper, Lead Driver for Bite Squad’s La Crosse Market, they deliver food to residents as far north as Trempealeau, and as south as Stoddard.

Red Pines Bar and Grill frequently played with the idea of delivery, but establishing a system by themselves would not be possible.

“So when Bite Squad came in we were like, ‘Oh my gosh, that is a great option,’ because there are people that can’t get here and we’re a little out of the way,” Corinna Todd, Owner of Red Pines Bar and Grill, explains.

Located on Lake Onalaska in Brice Prairie, their location may be unknown for some residents. Bite Squad aims to eliminate variables like traveling or navigating a new area.

“For some people, to get out here it can be an issue. With Bite Squad it’s nice because if they can’t come out, at least we can bring it to them,” Todd adds.

They did offer carry out service but found it took the much-needed attention of employees.

“The hard thing with that is we’re on the phone and have to ask all these questions, but basically Bite Squad does it all for us,” Server at Red Pines Siri Hutchens describes.

“We don’t have to ask them what they want for a side, we don’t have to ask them what kind of wrap they want.”

Hutchens says, the service is like having an extra server on staff.

“We get the order at Bite Squad, we send the order to the restaurant,” Schmeckpeper elaborates, “Our driver is dispatched to the restaurant, we come to pick it up and deliver it to your house, home, hotel or business.”

For restaurants like Red Pines, it’s a chance to get their food onto the plates of Coulee Region residents, using convenience to highlight local businesses people may not frequently experience.

“Some people maybe have never even been out here and tried our food. When you go on the app you can choose a variety of restaurants, if they’ve never heard of us it’s a good way to try us out,” Todd finishes.

If you plan to use the service be aware you may only order from restaurants within seven miles of your current location, meaning available businesses will change depending on where you are.

It’s also important to know that while the restaurants can answer any questions regarding the food, once an order is placed any changes must be made through Bite Squad and not the restaurant itself.

They currently employ 20 drivers, looking to fill 100 positions over time.

Visit them online for application information, or to place an order. You can also search for the Bite Squad app on your smartphone.
