La Crosse, Wis. (WXOW) – Viterbo dietetics students spent the afternoon at Blessed Sacrament School Friday, helping children “Mind Their Senses” when it comes to nutrition.
Part of an event called Food Science Fridays, activities played out at five different stations for each of the five senses. Sight, for example, used face painting to teach about phytochemicals, which are the colors found in fruits and vegetables.
“It’s extremely important for children to learn about nutrition because that’s where it starts, habits always start young,” junior dietetics student Brooklyn Seiler said. “If we can enforce healthy habits and healthy nutrition at younger ages that will implement throughout their entire life.”
For taste, the kids got to try a number of different foods including a recipe for “Chocolate Chip Energy Balls”.
