La Crescent, Minn. (WXOW) — Fifth graders in the La Crescent LEGO League robotics team will participate in the sectional meet in Saint Paul on Saturday.
The middle school robotics team is the fifth out of La Crescent to ever advance to the sectional meet.
For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) LEGO League is the organization that hosts and judges participants based on presentation, robotics programming, teamwork and running the robot to complete as many missions as possible in two minutes.
Missions are always categorized into a theme, and this year the theme was “issues astronauts face in space”.
Participant Dylan Lehmann constructed a robot that can automatically push a satellite so it points upward.
In addition to Lehmann’s robot, the local team chose to research stem cells and further investigate muscle atrophy and why it is that space travel causes astronauts to lose muscle mass.
