La Crosse, WI – WXOW – Representative Ron Kind told attendees at the La Crosse Chamber of Commerce monthly forum that Wisconsin farmers are in a crisis.  Kind said the current government shutdown needs to end.  He added how now is the time for farmers when they have to make those crucial decisions for an upcoming growing season.

“We had record bankruptcies last year and it’s looking to continue that trend this year.  The shut down is just piling on.  We’ve had historically low commodity prices over the last four years.  The last thing they (farmers) need is for the Farm Service administrative offices and programs they deliver to be shut down right now,” Kind said.

Kind added that while various policy discussions need to continue, it shouldn’t be done by holding 800,000 federal workers hostage.
