La Crosse, Wis. (WXOW) – The 2019 Rex and Queen for the La Crosse Mardi Gras celebration were revealed Wednesday night.

Crystal and Tony Kirchner were announced to cheers in the Freighthouse’s Hiawatha room. The Kirchners said they first became involved with the celebrations six years ago and are honored to hold positions of royalty.

The La Crosse Mardi Gras celebration raises tuition assistance and supports technology development and fine arts at Aquinas Catholic Schools.

“We met some couples at our parish that said ‘Hey, do you want to go to a few parties in the middle of the winter?’ And we said yeah we’re in,” Tony said. “Then we kind of [found] behind all of that is trying to better catholic education in La Crosse.”

The Aquinas Catholic Schools provide a high quality spiritual and academic education and we are very excited to promote that,” Crystal said.

Crystal and Tony will officially take the mantle as Rex and Queen at the Mardi Gras Ball. That is February 16 at the Radisson. Tickets are available at lacrossemardigras.com.
