Hi-Crush closing Augusta plant, reopening in Whitehall

Eau Claire County (WQOW) – One of the nation’s largest frac sand producers is idling its mine in Eau Claire County while resuming operations at another western Wisconsin plant.

Thursday, Hi-Crush announced plans to resume operations in Whitehall while stopping production at the facility in Augusta.

According to a release obtained by News 18, the company says the employees at the Augusta facility will be transitioning over to Whitehall.

Last fall, Hi-Crush stopped their dry plant operations in Whitehall due to decreased demand from the oil industry.

Hi-Crush CEO Robert Rasmus said the shift is in response to an increase demand from gas and oil producers looking for northern white sand.
