Interstate open again after pile-up on I-94 involves 40 vehicles, causes 7 injuries

Eau Claire (WQOW) – UPDATE: Traffic is open again on I-94 after a massive pile-up crash Sunday afternoon.

The Wisconsin State Patrol said drivers should use caution due to road conditions.


Dozens of vehicles came to a standstill and several people are injured after a multi-vehicle pile-up on I-94 Sunday evening north of Osseo.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, the multi-vehicle crash happened on both sides of I-94, eastbound and westbound, at mile marker 85 in Eau Claire County. Officials said 40 vehicles are involved in the crash, including seven semis and 33 automobiles. Officials also said the pile-up includes seven injuries, one person in critical condition.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, all traffic is being rerouted from the location:

I-94 eastbound traffic is being rerouted at mile marker 81 eastbound Foster exit to Highway 53. I-94
westbound traffic is being rerouted at mile marker 88 westbound Osseo to Highway 53.

Motorists are being asked to avoid this area. Officials said take extreme caution as the snow creates slippery road conditions.

The crashes are under investigation.
