LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) -The 2019 Oktoberfest commemorative button design was revealed at the annual Forks and Corks fundraiser on Thursday night.
Mary Schill won the button design contest this year. She has been entering fest button designs since 2001 and has previously won four times. This year she incorporated her favorite parts of Oktoberfest like dancing and the beautiful fall colors.
Schill graduated from UW-La Crosse and is happy to give back and support this community. She says, “It is so incredible to me. La Crosse was probably my favorite part of my life, coming here for college. And then to be able to leave pieces of myself here and have the history. Because La Crosse made me a designer, so to be able to give those pieces back for what I became later in life.. is great.”
Festmaster and Frau, Mike and Karen Keil, joined Mary in unveiling the design. They loved the details of the button and are already preparing for the next Oktoberfest.
The Forks and Corks event raises funds for the Gemutlichkeit Foundation. The money goes for scholarships for students pursuing higher education.
The event was at the La Crosse Center and featured gourmet foods and wines along with live and silent auctions for those in attendance.
