MADISON, Wis. (WXOW) — Despite not moving on to the championship, the Bangor Cardinals had plenty of support at Friday’s semifinal game.

Two local high school basketball teams tried to take the next step toward a state title at the WIAA State Tournament in Madison. It was not meant to be. Both the Bangor Cardinals and Central Red Raiders lost their semifinal games.

It was Cardinals Head Coach Jacob Pederson’s first game and his family almost filled an entire section of the Kohl Center. Pederson’s wife sat front and center with his three kids. “I grew up in Bangor and never thought that I would end up living in this town in my life but my husband is the one who started teaching in Bangor and fell in love with the town,” Jennifer Pederson said. “So we couldn’t be more proud to be living in this community.”

This is the second straight year the Bangor boys made it to state. The basketball team lost 10 seniors after claiming last years golden ball.
