La Crosse temporarily closes trails

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – The City of La Crosse is temporarily closing some of its trails due to the spring thaw.

City Parks and Recreation Outdoor Recreation Coordinator Leah Burns said that the following trails are closed for a while:

  • Hixon Forest
  • Upper Hixon Forest
  • La Crosse River Marsh Trails
  • Mathy Tract

With the thaw, she said any hikers or bikers using the trails could leave behind deep footprints or ruts in the ground that could contribute to erosion and a rough trail. It is difficult and expensive to repair that damage.

Burns asks that trail users pay attention to any closure signs that are posted.

She uses the suggestion that if a visible track or print is left in a trail, it is too muddy to use.
