LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Community members made their way to Western Technical College’s Business Education Center on Saturday to get some free help with their taxes.

Individuals and couples making less than $66,000 a year were able to work one on one with a volunteer to figure out how to get the most out of their tax filings.

Sponsored by Marine Credit Union Foundation and several other collaborators, the event is designed to help alleviate an often stressful process. Many of the volunteers are students who are studying accounting, business, or enrolled in other related programs.

“It’s a great learning experience,” Community Engagement Coordinator for Western Technical College Kari Reyburn said.

“. . .It’s a great way for them to kind of apply what they’re learning in their academic program. It’s also a good way to get that client interaction. . . You’re going to learn a lot about problem solving in a quick amount of time.”

Western Technical College will hold another tax assistance event on Saturday, April 6.
