LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – A change of plans for Pearl Street Brewery.

On Saturday, April 20, the company was set to release a beer they brewed that contained CBD oil.

This is not the case anymore.

Pearl Street Brewery staff said as soon as they announced this new experimental beer a month from Saturday, they said the government sent them a letter reading ‘They do not approve of this CBD oil beer.’

Joe Katchever, founder and brewmaster of Pearl Street Brewery, said he was confused by the government’s letter because he said the CBD oil in this beer came from domestically sourced hemp plants.

“It was a little confusing to us, and so, of course, we contacted them and tried to decipher why that would be, and they are just going back and forth with us right now. I don’t know why we need approval since CBD is not illegal, not an illegal substance, but we’re working with them to get through this,” said Katchever.

Katchever said the company hopes to produce and release their CBD oil infused beer in the near future. He said there would be 5 mg of CBD oil per 12 oz serving.
