La Crosse, WI (WXOW) – A reassessment of property values in La Crosse has some homeowners concerned about higher property taxes.
But the city says the impact on most taxes should be minimal.
State regulations require cities to do periodic reassessments every five years. La Crosse’s last property re-evaluation came in 2008.
The city sent notices to homeowners informing them that the reassessments will increase property values between 25% and 50%.
City Planner Jason Gilman says tax rate changes based on a number of factors will minimize the impact on tax bills.
Homes in flood zones may seen their assessment drop. Gilman says, “Some people might see a slight increase, some people might see a decrease as well because there are some factors that are affecting property values and flood insurance that the appraisers take into account.”
