LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) — The University of Wisconsin medical school that resides on the Gundersen campus officially changed its name to “Gundersen Western Academic Campus of The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health”.
The campus is used mostly for fourth-year medical students to complete their education.
“I think the real recognition is looking at the results of this wonderful partnership,” University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health Dean Robert Golden said. “Over the past ten years, nearly 1,000 of our medical students received their training here and from their report, it’s oftentimes what they identify as the best part of their educational experience.”
Golden said the school has enjoyed a 35-year relationship with Gundersen Hospital–including the Wisconsin Academy of Rural Medicine for doctors working in smaller communities.
