LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) — Fifth-grade students from the School of Technology and Arts planted a pollinator patch for an edible schoolyard project at Hamilton Elementary School.

Students participating in the planting project made life easier for the birds and the bees. They had an installation ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday where the garden will get planted.

“This edible schoolyard project will be the entire span of the front of their building and it’s going to incorporate both pollinators plants and edible plants like trees and shrubs that have fruit for them to eat and enjoy,” GROW Executive Director Jami O’Neill said.

The plants represent the first of five pieces of the edible schoolyard project. The goal is to grow plants that produce food.
