TOMAH, Wis. (WXOW) – The driver of a vehicle doing 120 mph down I-90 in Monroe County is recovering after crashing early Thursday morning.
A chase began around 2:30 a.m. near mile marker 25 when a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Deputy clocked a vehicle doing 120 mph headed eastbound on the interstate.
The driver failed to pull over when the deputy tried to stop him.
The chase continued for roughly 15 miles, with speeds at times topping 100 mph.
It ended when the SUV went off the road and hit a fence.
The vehicle, a 20008 GMC Acadia, quickly caught fire after the crash. Two dogs ran from the vehicle. They were later caught and taken to the Monroe County Animal Shelter for care.
The man was pulled from the SUV by officers before it became engulfed in fire.
He was arrested, then taken to Sparta Mayo Hospital for treatment for his injuries.
The man was released later on Thursday. He is now in the Monroe County Jail awaiting a bond hearing on Friday. He hasn’t been identified yet by authorities.
Officers later learned the SUV was stolen from Colorado.
