ONALASKA, Wis. (WXOW) — Wisconsin DockDogs brought the competition to Onalaska for the first time at the Driftless Outdoors Show.

Handlers throw dog toys into a pool and then judges mark down how far or high each dog makes the jump. Dogs compete in three different events: distance, speed and retrieve and extreme vertical high jump. One local French Island family competed with their dog Bella Blue.

“Being close to the water really helps to be able to jump back and we’ve got water on both sides of us on French Island so we’ve got a lot of places to practice,” dog handler Scott Christopherson said. “She gets pretty excited when she sees the competition starting to go.”

The Omni Center overflowed with people during day two of the Driftless Outdoors Show which is in its second year and gets organized by Explore La Crosse.

This is the first time Wisconsin DockDogs has put on a competition in the La Crosse area. Anyone can participate as long as the handler is at least 7-years-old and the dog 6-months-old.
