ONALASKA, Wis. (WXOW) – Wednesday, May 29 is National Senior Health & Fitness Day.  The common goal for this day: to help keep older Americans healthy and fit.

It is always held the last Wednesday in May and is the nation’s largest annual health and wellness event for older adults.

At the Houser YMCA in Onalaska seniors can take part in group exercise classes geared toward their age group. One of those classes is Chair Yoga.

The YMCA said Chair Yoga will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance, and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

Delona Tydrich enjoys the chair yoga class, “I like the flexibility, my balance is much better, and the camaraderie is fantastic, you know we are a family.”
