Three injured in Vernon County head on crash

COON VALLEY, Wis. (WXOW) – Three people are hurt, including an infant, in a two vehicle head-on crash near Coon Valley Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 11:29 a.m. along Highway 14/61 near Hellwig Lane west of Coon Valley.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle driven by Denise G. Dearmond, 66, of Minneapolis, was headed east when she crossed the centerline into the path of the oncoming vehicle.

The two vehicles collided head on.

The driver of the oncoming vehicle, Shannon N. Larkin, 27 of Westby, and her eight-week-old infant daughter Londyn, and the family dog were in the vehicle. They were able to get out of their vehicle with the help of bystanders.

Dearmond had to be extricated out of her vehicle by firefighters.

All three were taken to Gundersen Health System by Tri-State Ambulance for treatment. The sheriff’s office said they the injuries were non-life threatening.

The dog was treated at a vet clinic located by the crash scene.

Besides the sheriff’s office, the Coon Valley Fire Department, Coon Valley Police, Coon Valley First Responders, Shelby First Responders, and the Shelby Fire Department were at the scene.

The westbound lane of the highway was closed for about 90 minutes.
