LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Last fall, La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat sent a letter to city homeowners asking them to make energy efficient upgrades to their homes.

More than 600 responded wanting information about working with Focus on Energy and the city.

Those efforts by the city were recognized by the state’s Public Service Commission Wednesday.

“The fact that we are getting recognized for that says a lot,” said Kabat. “We are just very proud of that because the whole focus on energy efficiency and really trying to reduce our carbon footprint collectively as a community is really important and it’s a big goal for the city.”

Homeowners Leslie and Jerry Root were two of the homeowners that reached out and received incentives from they city and Xcel Energy. They’re seeing the results.

“It’s more energy efficient so it’ll be more comfortable to live in, cheaper to heat and cool, and because of some of the upgrades it will be a safer home to live in as well,” said Jerry Root.

Since last September, 40 energy efficient projects have been completed in La Crosse.
