LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – It was a busy day at the UW La Crosse Student Union kitchen as the Kids Culinary Academy created pasta and garlic knots.
The students ranging from 6th grade to 10th grade are all learning the art of cooking including safe food preparation, safety technique, etiquette and menu planning.
“I’ve been learning how to cook and make dough,” said Kellyn Cognac, a 6th grader. “I was surprised to learn that yeast is a fungus! I just didn’t know that.”
As the week progresses, the students will learn how to prepare a chicken dish, take on the baking tasks of making cake and pie and continue to create more pastas. For their grand finale, a full meal will be created and then served to their invited guests.
