TOMAH, Wis. (WXOW) – Tomah Clinic patients will no longer have to make a trip to the La Crosse or Onalaska to use a Gundersen medical facility. Soon they’ll be able to go just right down the road, to a new location.

That was part of Gundersen’s plan all along. Tomah Clinic Manager Kathy Jo Coblentz said this move was decided a few years ago when they noticed the patient demand at the current Tomah Clinic was increasing. Patients were also scheduling appointments in La Crosse or Onalaska and were often times unable to make the drive. The move was to also increase accessibility for area patients and to make things less confusing.

“Some of our patients are not able to get to Onalaska or La Crosse for their health services, so we’re excited that we’re going to be able to offer those services right here for some of those patients that normally would’ve said, ‘No, I’m sorry, I can’t do that’, will still be able to get those services provided right here locally. So it’s a big deal to them,” Coblentz said.

The New Gundersen Tomah Clinic is a result of three different locations now all under one roof. Gundersen Behavioral Health, Tomah Memorial Hospital and Tomah Clinic all joined together to become the newest location for patients to receive medical treatment.

“They’ll be able to come right to this clinic here to be able to check in in one spot and be able to go to any of those services here. So it’ll be less confusing for our patients,” Coblentz said. “They won’t have to try to figure out which location they need to go to. They’ll just be able to come here and we’ll be able to help them out all under one roof.”

The Gundersen Tomah Clinic will open it’s doors to the public on Monday, August 26. For the past few months, the staff has been preparing for opening day by moving in furniture, equipment and hanging art on the walls. The new two story, 77,000 square foot building is three times the size of the current Tomah Clinic building, which is approximately 25,000 square feet. Coblentz says the extra room will allow for a growth of patients and the community. The new Gundersen Tomah Clinic is located at 505 Gopher Drive.

The new location also allowed the Gundersen Tomah Clinic to add new accommodations, including a Cancer Center, a 16- bed unit for renal dialysis, and also a drive through retail pharmacy.
