LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – La Crosse Police have released the body-cam video of the officer who was shot earlier this month.
The video is from Officer Dustin Darling. He was responding to a domestic disturbance complaint at a home at 317 9th Street South.
The video shows the moments when Officer Darling confronted Allen C. Kruk at the residence. As Kruk turns to walk away, Darling grabs his arm. That’s when Kruk turns on the officer with a handgun in his right hand.
Several shots follow from both Kruk and Officer Darling. As the officer retreats, he radios that he has been hit in the chest in his protective vest by one of the shots. He eventually ends up at a home next door where he said he was establishing a perimeter as other officers come to the scene.
Earlier Tuesday, La Crosse County District Attorney Tim Gruenke said that Darling was justified in the use of force against Kruk. Gruenke said that no criminal charges were warranted.
Police said in a statement that Officer Darling is still on administrative leave as a result of the incident. The statement said that he is healing from the injury caused by the gunshot to his ballistic vest.
