LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Then there were three.
Earlier on Tuesday, the City of La Crosse named four people as finalists for the vacant Police Chief position.
By 1:30 p.m., that number dropped to three. When contacted by WXOW, Brian Bassett, currently Deputy Chief of Police in Southfield, Michigan, said he was withdrawing his name from the list. He said he’s informed the city’s Police and Fire Commission of his decision.
The remaining three are all currently serving as supervisors inside the La Crosse Police Department.
The finalists are: Captain Shawn Kudron-Investigative Services Bureau; Captain Jason Melby-Professional Standards/Community Services; and Captain Daniel Kloss-Field Services Bureau.
The city’s Police and Fire Commission plans to do interviews with the finalists on September 23-24.
They are vying to replace Ron Tischer, who left at the end of July to become Police Chief in Payson, Arizona.
Assistant Chief Rob Abraham, who currently is acting as interim chief, declined to apply for the position.
