La Crosse gets $3.4M for airport improvements

(WAOW) — The La Crosse Regional Airport is one of several in Wisconsin receiving part of $50.5 million in infrastructure grants from the Federal Aviation Administration.

“This significant investment in airport improvements in Wisconsin will fund construction and rehabilitation projects that will help maintain high levels of safety in U.S. aviation,” Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao said in a news release from the FAA. .

The following airports will receive grants:

·         LaCrosse Regional, $3,426,668 – to rehabilitate a service road, expand an apron, reconstruct a taxiway, and modify an access road.

·         Appleton International, $4,728,600 – to expand a runway.

·         Chippewa Valley Regional, $1,345,682 – to rehabilitate a runway and taxiway.

·         Dane County Regional-Truax Field, $3,956,372 – to rehabilitate a service road, and modify an access road.

·         Wisconsin State Block Grant Program, $15,555,969 – to fund development projects in the state block grant program.

·         Wisconsin State Block Grant Program, $3,600,000 – to fund development projects in the state block grant program.

·         Wisconsin State Block Grant Program, $150,000 – to fund development projects in the state block grant program.

·         Wisconsin State Block Grant Program, $7,521,894 – to expand an apron.

·         General Mitchell International, $2,276,463 – to rehabilitate a taxiway.

·         Central Wisconsin, $2,337,537 – to improve a terminal building.

·         Central Wisconsin, $923,957 – to rebuild a runway.

·         Rhinelander-Oneida County, $4,635,000, to rehabilitate a runway, apron, taxiway, terminal building, plus buy aircraft deicing equipment and other miscellaneous equipment. This grant will also fund modifications to the terminal building and an apron reconstruction.

Airports can receive a certain amount of AIP entitlement funding each year based on activity levels and project needs. If their capital project needs exceed their available entitlement funds, the FAA can supplement their entitlements with discretionary funding.
