Detour planned for northbound Rose Street in La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – A portion of northbound Rose Street in La Crosse closes for the next week and a half to make emergency sewer repairs.

Deputy Director of Engineering and Public Works Matthew Gallager said that starting Tuesday morning at 11 a.m., northbound Rose Street starting at Monitor Street and going through Hagar Street will close to vehicle traffic.

The reason is a collapsing sanitary sewer under Rose Street near Hagar Street needs replacement. The city’s Board of Public Works declared an emergency Monday morning to expedite repairs.

Here’s what the city said about the detour and how to get through the area:

A detour will be posted for through and truck traffic, using Monitor Street, Lang Drive/George Street, Saint Cloud/Saint James Streets, River Valley Drive, and Gillette Street—returning to USH 53 at Rose & Gillette.

Additionally, the intersection of Rose and Hagar Streets will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic. Side streets between Monitor Street and the Rose Street bridge over the CP Rail will remain open to east-west traffic. Rose Street, as well as side streets, will remain open to local traffic only between Hagar Street and Clinton Street.

Traffic delays are expected.

Gallager said the closure is expected to last until Friday, November 1.
