Prairie Du Chien tops Aquinas in season opener

The Aquinas Blugolds made their way to Prairie Du Chien Friday night for their season opener. Aquinas was looking to bounce back from a winless season last year but the streak continues.

The Blackhawks drew first blood when quarterback Gavin Wetzel snuck into the end zone. Moments later Prairie Du Chien’s Gavin Gillitzer threw a deep pass down field that was nearly picked off before being grabbed by Mason Kramer who put the Blackhawks in the red zone. Gillitzer would soon after sneak the ball up the middle and across the goal line.

The action continued in the second quarter when Brandon Merfield caught a short pass and took it ninety yards for a touchdown. A two point conversion followed.

The Blackhawks answered just moments later with another touchdown from Gillitzer who kept the ball, broke some tackles, and crossed the goal line for a Blackhawk lead.

Prairie Du Chien went on to win 36-14.
