Defense leads Caledonia to the state semifinals

Burnsville, Minn. (WXOW)  Caledonia won their 52nd game in a row in emphatic fashion Friday night, beating New Richland H-E-G 41-0 in a Class AA State quarterfinal.

Noah King threw for 165 yards and Nick McCabe’s catch and run at the end of the first half higlighted the Warriors dominance.

The defense put the clamps on too, holding New Richland to just 71 total yards.

Payton Schott returned a fumble for a score for Caledonia.

“I think we came out and. other than the first drive, we got off to a great start. Everyone was doing their job. The line did a great job protecting and blocking. Running backs made some great plays. Nick’s touchdown was crazy. I was sitting a long ways away and I saw him catch it. I knew he had to beat one guy. That guy slowed him up then he threw that guy off. I thought he was going to be out of bounds tip-toeing along the sidelines and then he dove forward into the end zone and I sprinted over. I was really excited,” said King.

The Warriors will play in the State semifinals next week Thursday at U.S. Bank Stadium at 2 PM.
