La Crescent, Minn. (WXOW) La Crescent-Hokah soccer embarks on a post-season voyage Saturday as the number 2 seed in Section 1A.
They can expect the opposing team’s defense to have all the focus on Issac Petersen.
Petersen leads the state in scoring with 40 goals and he is also climbing the record books when it comes to career goals.
Petersen is currently in third place with 111.
He is one goal shy of moving into a tie for second and he feels pride in what he’s accomplished.
“It’s just crazy to think about it. Like I don’t think it’s really set in that I have really done that because I haven’t really experienced too much, but it’s just cool to think about that now and just live through it,” Petersen said.
“I think last year he had a little more help with his goals. Last year a lot of the goals were in the air and a lot were from the outside. This year a lot were on his own. Not all of them, but a good share of them. So he’s really stepped up again this year,” said Lancers head coach JP Piche.
Another guy that has stepped up this year is senior goal keeper Mitch Dryden.
Dryden has 12 shut outs this year and 28 career shut outs which ranks ninth all time in the state.
He has all the confidence in the net.
“I just got to be focused and be mentally on my game a hundred percent of the time, so whether that’s say we have the ball for a long time, I can’t lapse, I have to be ready. So I do little things to keep myself in the game,” Dryden said.
La Crescent-Hokah opens the playoffs at home Saturday at 6 PM against an opponent to be determined.
