LA CRESCENT, Minn. (WXOW) – La Crescent junior Isaac Petersen has put together a stellar season. Petersen is part of a team that is 15-0 on the year, and he alone has broken numerous records. Petersen scored 49 goals this season breaking a La Crescent single season scoring record. His outstanding junior season put him at 71 career goals, which also breaks a school record. Petersen is now one goal away from tying a state record.

” He can score with his feet, he can score with his head. It’s amazing some of the things he can do,” Head Coach Jon-Paul Piche said.

” Is this kid from another planet,” Midfielder Sam Shimshak said. ” It was just crazy, and he’s playing so good, and we’re having so much fun with him.”

” You just don’t really think about it,” Petersen said. ” You just play, and whatever happens happens.”

Petersen started playing varsity soccer for La Crescent in 7th grade with a unique first memory.

” We were playing at PEM, and I think Shim was feeling sick or something, but I got his number and then I got announced in as him and everything, and it was just amazing.”

Now as a junior, Petersen is wearing his own jersey, but still giving plenty of credit to his teammate Sam Shimshak who is ranked third in the state with 18 assists.

” It’s been pretty much unknown in this area because Isaac has 49 goals, but Sam is having a great year too, and so is our goal tender and our defense, it’s everyone,” Coach Piche said.

” I feel like we play with some of the most heart around,” Shimshak said. ” We really all want to be there. We all want to win, and a bunch of people working towards the same goals, just a recipe for success.”

The undefeated Lancers will play their first post season game at La Crescent on Saturday as the number 3 seed.

” We haven’t proved anything yet,” Coach Piche said.
