UW-La Crosse is at the halfway point to their season with a 3-2 record overall.
They’re hoping last week’s overtime win at Stout will be the start of a late season run that puts them in playoff contention.
The Eagles walked away with a 29-23 win over the Blue Devils after their defense finished it off.
Ryan Flathers forced a fumble that Rusty Murphy scooped up and scored.
The game was a breakout performance for Flathers, who finished with three sacks.
He leads the team with 5 sacks and 5 tackles for a loss this season.
“I’m just using my speed and my agility and my length. I’m widening out a lot when it’s third down or passing situations. I’ve been just getting around the edge and that’s been working great for me,” Flathers said.
“Ryan Flathers is actually the first recruit I called when I got the job here. I knew he was going to be a great player. I didn’t know it was going to be in this kind of role but the kid has such a natural ability for it. WIAC Player of the Week and he should’ve been, deservedly so with those kind of numbers,” said head coach Mike Schmidt.
The Eagles host UW-Stevens Point this Saturday.
It’s a 6 PM kickoff at Harring Stadium.
