NHL player David Booth leads La Crescent hockey camp

La Crescent, Minn. (WXOW)- Two former NHL players led a weekend hockey camp at La Crescent community arena.

David Booth is coming off a 10 year NHL career, and he will likely play overseas this year. In addition, La Crescent’s own Eriah Hayes who announced his retirement last year.

This camp was open to boys and girls centering around ages 12-17. These young athletes aspire to be just like Booth and Hayes one day.

” We’re out here having fun,” Booth said. ” It brings the youth out of me when I’m around these kids you know what I know when I was that age, I remember going down to the Joe Louis arena in Detroit watching those guys, so I just know the impact that it has just having someone at the top level that they aspire to be.”

” Well it’s pretty cool,” La Crescent Middle Schooler Colton Holzer said. ” I mean they know everything about hockey pretty much and they teach us a lot. I’v learned how to skate better, how to dig into my edges.”

” I think it is great,” Sparta High Schooler Savannah Holcomb said. ” It is helping me a lot, and it will definitely make me go farther.”
