Young Eagles thriving in pressure situations

La Crosse, Wis. (WXOW)  The Eagles have a chance to clinch back to back winning seasons if they can beat River Falls on Saturday.
In the bigger picture though is how this year’s squad has come of age.

Head coach Mike Schmidt has talked frequently this season about how young his team is, especially at certain positions.
But they’ve played like poised veterans in close games.
The Eagles have won all three of their games decided by one score or less this season including last week’s 35-28 win over Platteville.

“This team just continues to grow week by week. I’ve been on a lot of teams where you lose games last week, games like Illinois Weleyan and games like Stout. This team just continues to find a way and gut it out. We’re going to see these dividends at some point down the road,” said Schmidt.
“We’ve seen that all season to be honest. If you’ve seen the Illinois Wesleyan game, you have that one. Obviously, the big win at Stout. I think that’s a product of young guys know how good they are and gaining that confidence throughout the season as well,” said senior Elijah McGeehan.

The 5-3 Eagles host River Falls Saturday at 1 PM at Harring Stadium.
