La Crosse, Wis. (WXOW)  UW-La Crosse scored the first 19 points of the game and never trailed on their way to a 72-62 win over UW-Eau Claire.

The Blugolds missed their first 12 shots thanks to some tight Eagles defense.

Eau Claire cut the lead to four in the 4th quarter before UW-L closed the game on an 11-2 run.

Emma Gamoke had 16 points to lead the Eagles who improve to 13-1 overall.

“We have a lot of young faces out there so it’s a crash course in the WIAC. The physicality, the intensity of it. I thought we came out really strong, obviously got hot from the perimeter shooting-wise. But at the same time we were holding them defensively. I thought we did a really good job on both ends of the court,” said head coach Karen Middleton.
