La Crosse, Wisc. (WXOW)- On Saturday, Western Technical College hosted Anoka-Ramsey Community College in the conference championship game. A win guaranteed the team a spot in the NJCAA tournament.

The Cavaliers fought from behind in the 4th quarter to come away with a 68-62 victory, advancing to the program’s first ever national tournament.

“It means everything,” Head Coach Chad Dull said. ” This was the first ever for our group. Our theme all year has been about being together, so to come on a day where we play 13 kids, we come at you the whole game, and we come back in the 4th quarter, and do something no Western team had done before, it just means everything, and we are glad to be together for another couple of weeks.”

“We were ranked dead last to start the season by all the conference coaches, and here we are,” Western Forward and MVP Kerrigan Lyga said. ” We are number one. We are going to nationals for the first time in school history. We are conference champs for the first time in school history, like this is just amazing.”
