Melrose, Wisc.(WXOW)- Melrose-Mindoro has been untouched in the Dairyland conference the last few years. The Mustangs claimed their fourth straight title last season.
They are once again predicted to finish first this year. The Mustangs haven’t lost a conference game since October of 2015. They are currently on winning streak of 21 conference games. However, it will be tough to keep that streak alive with just three returning starters this year. In turn, that leaves a lot of room for competition.
“Kids are stepping up,” Mel-Min Head Coach Tory Lockington said. “We got a lot of spots to fill with only one of our linebackers coming back on defense. On offense, we got a quarterback, and our tackle coming back. So a lot of open spots. A lot of kids are fighting for it and working really hard to see who can get that starting spot.”
“We’ve had a lot of talent in the last couple years and from the success that we’ve had, we know what we can do and what we’re capable of,” Senior Seth Peterson said. “The younger guys have looked up to the older guys like us that we’ve played for a couple seasons, and they’re ready to step up and show us what they can do.”
Mel-Min will play at Bangor Thursday August 22nd in their season opener.
