La Crosse, Wisc. (WXOW)- UW-La Crosse hosted a much anticipated girls basketball match-up between Onalaska and Melrose-Mindoro. Both teams received number one seeds in the state tournament, but they are in different divisions.
The Mustangs are ranked second in division four and they led for a majority of the game, however Onalaska made a late comeback to take a 47-46 lead with 9:22 left in the second half.
However, the Mustangs were able to hold off by securing rebounds and hitting free throws down the stretch. The Mustangs came away with a 63-58 win. Mesa Byom led for Mel-Min with 22 points.
Melrose-Mindoro improves to 21-2 overall. Onalaska falls to 15-6 overall.
