DNR body cameras capture flood rescues in La Farge

LA FARGE (WBAY) — Newly-released video shows the search and rescue operations during the flooding in La Farge.

State Department of Natural Resources conservation wardens Ed McCann and Shawna Stringham took their boat to the Vernon County village while the Kickapoo River was rising by the minute.

They were able to rescue a number of families and their pets.

The DNR says wardens have a lot of experience with their equipment in severe weather conditions.

“That’s kind of what will test their mettle, I mean there’s always one step above of what you’re comfortable with, you’re getting pushed beyond your comfort zone, so you’re typical boater in the state of Wisconsin when it comes to rain or wind, they’re not out there, we are,” said DNR conservation warden supervisor Chris Groth.

Groth credits joint training with local police and sheriff’s departments for building trust in times of crisis.
